I thought I would try and cut hessian today with the ScanNCut I jumped straight it and went for it. I used the settings that I used recently for cutting felt and it cut a dream.
Regular mat, regular blade 7, pressure 9 , speed 5 , HeatNBond ultra ironed onto the back, with the paper backing removed and HNB side down onto the mat. I cut in one pass.
The photo shows the band for the hat and two flowers. The fabric was cut with regular mat, regular blade 4, pressure 4 , speed 5 and HNB again.
This is what I made with it, I’ve not used the flowers yet.
When ever I’ve cut fabric with an electronic cutting machine I have always used HeatnBond ultra.
I’ve cut fabric several times with my ScanNCut using HeatnBond and it’s always been perfect, so today I thought I would try using Reynolds freezer paper as I believe both. Gentleman Crafter and Mel Heaton have used it with their machines.
I have to say I am not really keen, infact if this had been the first thing I had tried with fabric it may have put me off.
Despite the fact I ironed the freezer paper really well to my fabric I found it just did not adhere as good as the HNB.
It had a tendency to move away from the fabric. I tried cutting the same shape with the paper facing up and facing down but got the same results.
I used blade3, pressure4, speed 5 and then blade4, pressure4, speed3 and got the same results.
It cut but not as clean as I get with HNB. The HNB ultra is no sew but I have to say I always sew it and never had any problem with my sewing machine or needles, there is also a light version which is recommended for sewing, so I may try that in the future.
Here is a photo of the shapes I cut as you can see they have fluffy edges, something I do not get when I use HNB.
Here is what I made with them, Its a note book cover.
If you have successfully cut fabric with freezer paper and had nice clean cuts, please let me know how you did it.
