Using Screenshots to create cutting files for your ScanNCut

I know for a lot of you the Brother ScanNCut machine will be your first electronic cutting machine if that is the case here on my blog and on my YouTube channel applelover53 you will find lots of tutorials which will hopefully help you get up and cutting in no time, there is (a link to my Youtube channel in the left hand sidebar).

However, if you have owned an electronic cutting machine before and you want to take advantage of using some of your previously designed cutting files which may have been made with a Craft Robo or Silhouette Cameo etc, then this video will hopefully show you how using the screen shot method can help you convert your cutting files in order to be able to use them with your ScanNCut machine.

This videos shows a file I designed back in 2006 with the Robomaster software for a Craft Robo, however I no longer own that machine and now use an Apple iMac so don’t have the software either, With the free Silhouette Studio software (link in sidebar) I can open my previously designed files but cannot cut them so by either printing and scanning them as shown in this video Here I can create a cut file. However this method does not always work.

This weeks video shows an alternative method of making a cut file by using a screen shot it also explains how to edit and clean up your cut files in order to get the best results.

This screenshot method does not have to be used with previously made cutting files it can be used with any design or image.

I use an app called “Grab” on my Mac to make screen shots but I found this information on the internet that will help you make them if you are a Windows user.

In a previously video Here I show how I made a shaped card from an image file I found on the Internet using Inkscape, this same tutorial can be used for a file you have made using a screenshot, you do not have to make a shaped card, the principles for creating an SVG outline are the same. (this video was one of my first so the sound quality may be low for some of you).

This weeks video is here

A couple of recent cutting files I’ve made using the screen shot method from images I found on the net and then tracing in Inkscape are here, so once you know how to do this you can make cutting files for your own personal use this way. #gallery-3338-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-3338-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-3338-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-3338-1 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
